Meet the people of Mansfield businesses – Holly Hensleigh

Picture shows a lady wearig sunglasses and to her left is a dog.

Holly Hensleigh is an Equity Release Adviser & Long-term Care Adviser, and has more letters after her name than many – CertLTCP CeRER CeMAP CeLTCI CeRGI PGDip LLB (hons)

But who is Holly, and what is her story? MMB asked her to share the story of her lfe so far.

“I lived in Ladybrook until I was 18 when I left for university in Lincoln,” she tells us. “I then returned to Mansfield for a year whilst at Law School in Nottingham. After this, I moved to Leeds to work for a debt advice charity. I returned to Mansfield in 2020 due to a change in job.”

Is your family from Mansfield?

Holly says: “All my family are in Mansfield. I spend a lot of time with my younger foster brothers and was a huge reason for moving home.”

So what is her approach to life? How does Holly relax?

I love walking with my two-year-old pooch, Reggie Ray.

We try to do a big walk in the Peaks most weekends. I spend a lot of time volunteering both locally and further afield. Otherwise spending time with friends is what I do in my spare time.

And what’s been the main influence on how she approaches things?

“My time working with the Uks leading debt charity,” Holly told us. “This has shaped my approach to work, clients and solutions I offer.”

What’s one thing no-one knows about Holly?

She admits to being “pretty borin” and very much “an open book but not much at all to report I’m afraid!”

Let’s talk about you work after achool.

She said: “My work experience at school was at a primary school and as much as I enjoyed it, I realised it wasn’t for me.

“Straight from Law School, I worked for the charity as a debt adviser and then was promoted to equity release adviser and then advice manager.

“During my last years at the charity, I was responsible for the team that offered regulated mortgage and equity release advice.

“I then moved to an industry leading brokerage in Leeds and managed a team of brokers there, ensuring that all advice given was appropriate both for regulatory purposes and in the clients interests.

If Holly didn’t do the role she does now, what would she be doing?

“As cheesy as it sounds,” she told us, “I would do equity release over any other job! Despite it’s issues historically, it is now a very safe financial planning tool. It can solve lots of issues and offers extensive security and a range of flexibility that surprises most and has never been available before”.

Give us a very quick overview of the challenges for clients, the challenges you have, and why you love the job.

Holly said: “I help a lot of clients with mortgage issues such as expired interest only mortgages or mortgage arrears. I help clients cover the cost of care at home to avoid moving into a facility. A lot of clients are also releasing equity to help children and family get on the property ladder.

“Equity release can be used for many reasons. Like anything, it is not suitable for everyone so it is vital to seek advice.”

And, finally, if you were Holly, the MP for Mansfield with lots of power, what’s the one thing you would do to improve Mansfield (and area)?

Holy says: “I think there needs to be more of a focus on the younger generation. They are facing many new challenges with risks attached to social media and various narratives being pushed to them. I would love to see more education and groups to tackle this.”
